Changing Thumbnail Display Settings
Thumbnails make it easy to scan and browse your media at a glance. MediaLab offers several options to customize how thumbnails are displayed.
1. Upload a new thumbnail You can replace the thumbnail for any file by cropping the existing image or uploading a new one. This is useful if you want each file to have a perfectly tailored thumbnail when sharing your media. See our article Changing the Thumbnail or Preview Image of a Video for detailed instructions.
2. Change the thumbnail display type (global setting) By default, MediaLab displays all thumbnails at the same size for a clean, uniform look. Since not all media has the same dimensions, this may result in cropping for larger images. To adjust this setting for all media and all users in your Lab:
- Navigate to Settings → General Settings → Thumbnails.
- Choose one of the following options:
- Fill area (default): All thumbnails are the same size; larger images may be cropped.
- Fit area: Resizes thumbnails to fit without cropping, ensuring the full image is shown.
- Fit vertically: Ideal for portrait images; preserves full height and adjusts width proportionally.
- Fit horizontally: Ideal for landscape images; preserves full width and adjusts height proportionally.
