Supported video formats for transcoding

MediaLab supports several video formats for transcoding, with options ranging from default MP4s to custom workflows.

Default MP4 H.264 Format

All accounts are set up with two default MP4 H.264 video profiles:

  • MP4 high resolution
  • MP4 low resolution

These are used for all uploaded videos. Settings can be adjusted under Settings → General settings → Video, including bitrate, watermarking, and timecode options. Once transcoded, the MP4s are available for download.

Apple HLS Format

MediaLab also supports Apple HLS for video playback. This format enables:

  • Multi-bitrate video playback with multiple resolutions.
  • Multiple audio streams.
  • Audio track switching within the video player.

Due to its complexity, HLS setup requires support assistance. Note that HLS files are not as easily downloadable as MP4s.

Recreate Option

Additional formats can be generated at any time by using the Recreate option, which adds them to the transcoding queue.

Custom Transcoding

Custom transcoding workflows are available on request.

  • On-premise platforms can integrate with existing infrastructure.
  • The REST API can be used to upload and manage additional file formats.
