Sharing files in MediaLab

There are several ways to share files in MediaLab. The most common methods are using the Public Link or sending a Personal Link.

The Theater page is a public link to view one or more videos, pictures, or audio files. It uses the same layout as the Share page and can be branded with a custom logo and colors. Theater links are not personal links, making them easy to share with multiple people or post on social media.

Personal Email

When you share via personal email, MediaLab sends a unique link to the recipient. This allows you to see if the link was opened and which files were viewed. Personal links provide the best level of security and are recommended whenever possible. It also supports most features including reading and writing comments.

When you want to create personal links but don't know the recipients in advance, creating a signup link will allow visitors to access the content after validating their email address.

Sharing folders

A share link can point to a single file or an entire folder. When sharing a folder, you can choose to share the entire folder structure or only the files within it. For non-managers the content will always reflect the permissions of the user who shared the link.

Other Sharing Options

  • Public share link – A generic link that can be distributed broadly.
  • Embed codes – Place the MediaLab player directly on your website.
  • User permissions – Grant ongoing access by creating user accounts with specific viewing or download rights.

Security and Customization Options

When sharing a file, you can set additional controls (or change defaults in Share settings):

  • Password protection
  • Maximum views before the link expires
  • Restrict source file access
  • Restrict download access
  • Add a watermark or custom video player branding

For frequent sharing with a specific group, consider creating user accounts with restricted permissions instead of repeatedly generating links.
