Keep Media Moving

MediaLab is a SaaS platform for distribution, viewing and storage of media assets, used by broadcasters, media producers, sports organizations and international brands. Think drone footage from a live event, raw camera files from a TV production, or source files well over 100GB, all moving through systems that need to handle them reliably. Every day, content viewed by millions of people moves through our systems, so reliability is a core requirement.

As a developer, you will maintain and extend the applications behind our B2B SaaS platform. The platform runs across AWS, Azure and hybrid environments, and we are not tied to a single cloud vendor.

We are a small but professional team based in Amsterdam, providing an enterprise-grade hosted software solution to international customers. Being a small team means this role calls for a flexible mindset, but it also means real ownership and responsibility over the parts of the platform you work on.

We believe people are capable of more than a checklist suggests. If you don't meet every requirement listed below but think you're a good fit, we encourage you to apply anyway.

You will

  • Build and evolve features across the MediaLab SaaS platform, frontend and backend
  • Participate in technical discussions and contribute to architectural decisions
  • Work directly with customers or stakeholders to understand requirements and test implementations
  • Review code and test merge requests from fellow developers
  • Debug and troubleshoot production issues to keep the platform stable
  • Improve reliability, scalability and maintainability of core systems
  • Apply a security-first and privacy-focused mindset to keep customer data safe
  • Explore AI-assisted media workflows, such as metadata extraction, face detection and automation

Your skills

  • Experience: 3+ years as a developer in application development
  • PHP: Experience with modern PHP and object-oriented programming
  • JavaScript/TypeScript: Experience with modern JavaScript or TypeScript
  • Development tools: Experience with modern development workflows (Git, Composer, Webpack, Docker, CI/CD)
  • Quality mindset: Strong attention to detail, a thorough testing approach and a commitment to maintainable code
  • Teamwork: Ability to collaborate with colleagues to ship features together
  • Communication: Ability to communicate progress and tradeoffs with stakeholders during development cycles
  • Work permit: You already hold a valid work permit for the Netherlands — we are not able to offer visa sponsorship for this role

Bonus points if you have experience with

  • Experience with our stack: MySQL, Redis, Memcached, OpenSearch, ImageMagick, FFmpeg, Linux, AWS, Azure
  • Experience with React Native or Electron
  • Experience designing multi-tenant, high-availability systems, including failover and disaster recovery
  • Experience with media handling or transcoding
  • Experience applying AI in development workflows or product features

What we offer

  • Salary range €3.500 - €5.000 gross per month based on 40 hours
  • 24 days of paid leave plus 8% holiday allowance
  • Pension via BeFrank
  • Annual bonus based on personal KPIs
  • Hybrid setup: 2 days in the office, flexible the rest of the week
  • Cloud training and certifications
  • NS business card or travel allowance
  • Real autonomy: you set your own pace within a collaborative team
  • Free lunch and good coffee at the office

Process

After you apply, we'll review your submission and may invite you to a short video screening. If that goes well, you'll be invited to our Amsterdam office for a follow-up conversation about the product, the platform and how you approach your work.
