# Connecting MediaLab to Claude

[Claude](https://claude.ai) is an AI assistant by Anthropic. With the MediaLab connector, you can ask Claude to work with your media library: find files and folders, read and edit metadata, add comments, create share and upload links, and import files from a URL. It works in Claude on the web, in Claude Desktop and in the Claude mobile apps.

Every user signs in with their own MediaLab account. Claude can only do what that user is allowed to do in MediaLab.

### Before you start

- The Claude integration has to be enabled for your MediaLab account. Contact MediaLab support to enable it.
- You need to be an administrator in MediaLab.
- In Claude, you need a plan that supports custom connectors. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner of your Claude organization adds the connector.
- Your MediaLab library must be reachable from the internet. Claude connects from Anthropic's servers, so a library on a private network can't be used.

### Step 1: Add a Claude connection in MediaLab

1. Go to **Settings** in the upper-right corner.
2. In the left menu, select **Cloud storage** > **Cloud connections**.
3. Click **+ (Add)** and choose **Claude**.
4. Fill in a **Name**, for example `Claude` or the name of your team. Users see this name when they allow Claude access.
5. Click **Submit**.

The **Set up in Claude** window opens. It shows the values you need in the next step, each with a copy button. You can open it again later from the connection's menu.

You can add more than one Claude connection, for example one for each Claude organization or team.

### Step 2: Add the connector in Claude

1. In Claude, open **Settings** > **Connectors** and click **Add custom connector**. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner does this under **Organization settings** > **Connectors**.
2. Copy the **MCP server URL** from the **Set up in Claude** window in MediaLab and paste it into the **MCP server URL** field.
3. Under **Advanced settings** (or **Use your own OAuth client**), copy in the **OAuth client ID** and **OAuth client secret**.
4. Click **Add**.

### Step 3: Connect and use it

1. In Claude, click **Connect** next to the MediaLab connector.
2. Sign in with your MediaLab account and click **Allow** to give Claude access.
3. Start a chat and ask Claude about your media, for example "Find the latest product videos" or "Create a share link for the folder Campaign 2026".

On Team and Enterprise plans, every member connects with their own MediaLab account after the owner has added the connector.

### Good to know

- **Access:** Claude only gets the rights a user has in MediaLab. A user without upload rights can't upload through Claude, even though Claude asks for that access.
- **Uploading:** Claude can't upload files from your computer. It can import a file from a public link, or give you the folder's link or an upload link so you can upload in the browser.
- **Stopping the integration:** delete the Claude connection in MediaLab. Everyone who connected through it is signed out of Claude straight away.
- **Keep the client secret safe:** if you think it has been shared, delete the Claude connection, add a new one and add the connector to Claude again with the new values. Claude doesn't allow changing a connector's settings afterwards.
- **Your data in Claude:** information Claude reads from MediaLab, such as file names, metadata and comments, becomes part of your conversations in Claude. Check your own agreements before you connect.

### Troubleshooting

- **Claude can't connect to the server** – check that you copied the full MCP server URL, and that your MediaLab library is reachable from the internet.
- **Signing in is refused** – the Claude connection was deleted, or the integration isn't enabled for your account. Contact MediaLab support.
- **Claude keeps asking you to connect again** – the Claude connection may have been replaced. Remove the connector in Claude and add it again with the values from the **Set up in Claude** window.
- **Claude says it doesn't have access to something** – Claude has the same rights as your MediaLab account. Ask an administrator if you need more rights.
