# Connecting MediaLab to CuttingRoom

[CuttingRoom](https://www.cuttingroom.com) is a video editor that runs in the browser. With the MediaLab integration, your media library appears as a panel in the CuttingRoom sidebar. Editors sign in with their own MediaLab account, browse or search your folders, and add video, audio and images to the project they are working on. CuttingRoom then loads the media directly from MediaLab.

### Before you start

- The CuttingRoom integration has to be enabled for your MediaLab account. Contact MediaLab support to enable it.
- You need to be an administrator in MediaLab, and an admin in your CuttingRoom workspace.

### Step 1: Add a CuttingRoom connection in MediaLab

1. Go to **Settings** in the upper-right corner.
2. In the left menu, select **Cloud storage** > **Cloud connections**.
3. Click **+ (Add)** and choose **CuttingRoom**.
4. Fill in:
   - **Name** – for example `CuttingRoom`.
   - **CuttingRoom address** – the address you use to open CuttingRoom, for example `https://yourcompany.eu1.cuttingroom.com`.
   - **Partition** – leave this at `medialab` unless you have a reason to change it.
5. Click **Submit**.

The **Set up in CuttingRoom** window opens. It shows the values you need in the next step, each with a copy button. You can open it again later from the connection's menu.

### Step 2: Add the integration in CuttingRoom

1. In CuttingRoom, go to **Settings** > **Integrations** and add a **Generic** integration.
2. Copy these values from the **Set up in CuttingRoom** window in MediaLab:
   - **Partition**
   - **REST API URL**
   - **Access Token**
   - **Panel URL**
3. Enable **Enable embed panel** and choose a **Panel position**, for example the left panel.
4. Under **Panel Icon**, upload the MediaLab panel icon. The download link is in the **Set up in CuttingRoom** window.
5. Save the integration.
6. Go to **Settings** > **General** in CuttingRoom and add the **Panel URL** to the **Content Security Policy** list.

### Step 3: Use the panel

1. Open a project in CuttingRoom.
2. Click the MediaLab icon in the sidebar and sign in with your MediaLab account.
3. Browse your folders, use the folder tree, search, or open **Recent files**.
4. Select files and click **Add to project** to add them to the project bin. To add a whole folder, click the add icon next to it; you can include its subfolders and keep the folder structure in the bin.

Editors only see media they have access to in MediaLab, and can only add files they are allowed to download. If they have the rights, they can also upload files and create folders straight from the panel.

### Good to know

- **Who can see the access token:** every admin of your CuttingRoom workspace. If you think it has been shared, click **Regenerate access token** in the **Set up in CuttingRoom** window and paste the new token into CuttingRoom right away. The old token stops working immediately.
- **Stopping the integration:** delete the CuttingRoom connection in MediaLab. CuttingRoom can then no longer load media from your library, and editors can no longer sign in to the panel.
- **Media leaves MediaLab:** files you add are loaded into CuttingRoom. Check your own agreements before you connect.

### Troubleshooting

- **"The editor didn't respond"** – the Panel URL is missing from the Content Security Policy list in CuttingRoom (**Settings** > **General**).
- **"The editor's address couldn't be detected"** – copy the Panel URL from the **Set up in CuttingRoom** window into CuttingRoom again.
- **Signing in is refused** – the CuttingRoom connection was deleted, or the integration isn't enabled for your account. Contact MediaLab support.
- **CuttingRoom can't load a file** – check that the Access Token in CuttingRoom matches the one in the **Set up in CuttingRoom** window, and that the file still exists in MediaLab and has finished processing.
