# Shared accounts

A **shared account** is a special user account designed to grant access to large groups of people.

Normally, MediaLab recommends **one account per person** for better security, statistics, and audit trails. For that reason, shared accounts are **not enabled by default**. However, they can be useful in specific scenarios, such as:

- **Stock media environments** where many distributors need access.
- **Live events** where part of the Lab is made publicly available.

### Creating a Shared Account

- When adding a new user, you can mark it as a **Shared Account**.
- This option cannot be changed later for that account.
- Certain features are disabled, such as changing the password or email address.

### Features and Permissions

- Shared accounts can be **regular users** or **uploaders**.
- Folder access is still managed via **permission groups**.
- Auto-login links can be generated for shared accounts, allowing access without requiring a password.

> To enable this feature for your Lab, please contact the MediaLab service desk.
