When I started at MediaLab back in 2013, I was constantly confronted with the question: “Why should I use your tool instead of a free online one?” Today, our B2B clients know all the reasons why you should use MediaLab as your professional tool for storing and sharing all your media files. That is so important it’s worth repeating. Our tool is used for your most needed, commercially valued content. It’s true, content is needed 24/7-365! But what do you do after the necessity of having this content available decreases? This is where we saw different types of workflows in the market.
Choose for an easy workflow
The workflow method that we most saw, was downloading the content on an external hard disk. If you are lucky the hard disk is labelled and a certain overview is stored centrally. Herewith the content can be found and restored quickly when needed. Sounds like an ideal world doesn’t it? In real life you do download the content, you might label the disk and store it in a cabinet or locker. You know what’s on it, right? So when you do need the content, you just grab the disk and “Voila!” If you use this kind of method, we hear many phrases, such as: Disk error, file corrupt, no disk where you last left it. Followed by: “It’s not on this one!” Because that’s the risk of this type of archiving.
Finding organized files back
MediaLab has now the Archive feature available to solve this. It enables you to store all your master and source files on more suitable storage. Combined with the right set of meta data and tagging. Followed by low resolution copies that MediaLab always makes of your content. These components enables you to search and retrieve the correct content instantly. Simply search on the right terms or tags and you will find the items you are looking for. You can even watch and share the low resolution file as you are accustomed to. To make sure you have the right content, simply restore the source file from the archive and you are good to go. No search trough a box of hard disk, no issues with corrupt files, no second guessing if you have the right file.
